Grand Canyon

Grand Canyon 25th - 27th March

Education activities and programs are available for use by Australian teachers. There is a distance education program on offer as well as a series of lesson plans and activities. The distance education program can be accessed through: http://www.nps.gov/grca/forteachers/distancelearningopportunities.htm

Create a National Park on page on of http://www.nps.gov/grca/forteachers/upload/General%20Activities-2.pdf looks to be a high quality higher order critical thinking activity, where students utilise prior learnt knowledge to synthesise their own national park.  This is suggested as an English activity by the website, but would be an ideal lesson plan for ecology-based science units in Australia.

Geology lesson plans are also really creative and engaging. These can be accessed at http://www.nps.gov/grca/forteachers/upload/Geology-3.pdf and include layers of the Earth, rock types and fossils.

Fire Ecology on the Rim is a superb module, this could be modified by Australian teachers to fit Australian context, or used as a comparison to Australian ecosystems. http://www.nps.gov/grca/forteachers/loader.cfm?csModule=security/getfile&PageID=523000
